Practice Nurses

Our practice nursing sisters run surgeries by appointment but the treatment room is staffed throughout most of the day. If you would like to be seen please book at reception or by telephone.

Amongst their other work they help with the following:

  • Immunisations
  • Cervical smears
  • Dietary and other health advice
  • Advice about minor ailments and injuries
  • Travel vaccinations
  • Removal of stitches
  • Dressings
  • Initial assessment of acute problems
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Chronic disease checks such as diabetes & coronary heart disease

Family Planning

We provide family planning services including contraceptive pills, depot injections, contraceptive implants, removals and checks and the ‘morning after pill’. The morning after pill can be taken up to 72 hours after the event, but is more effective the sooner it is taken. Contraceptive services are available on a fully confidential basis to young people. Please ask your doctor. Condoms are available from the practice nurses.

Maternity Services

The midwives help with the care of all our pregnant women and visit the homes of new babies for 10 days after delivery. They offer advice and help on all aspects of maternity care. They run antenatal classes and look after the deliveries of women who have chosen GP maternity care. They can be contacted by telephoning Burley Ward at the Princess Ann Hospital (80777222) who will then contact the midwives based at Pickles Coppice.

Child

Child Health

The health visitors give advice on child health and development and also do antenatal visiting..  Weekly health visitor clinics are run in the area, your health visitor will provide details. They can be contacted by telephone at Pickles Coppice.  Switchboard 023 8087 8387. After 10:00 messages can be left on the answerphone or by phoning the usual surgery numbers.
