Nail surgery can be used to treat in growing toenails that cause pain, inflammation (redness) often resulting in infection. It can also be used to treat thickened, deformed, and difficult to manage nails.
Nail surgery may be the best option for you if you have tried treatments, such as nail care from a qualified Podiatrist, experienced reoccurring infections or the pain from your nail stops you from taking part in an activity.
Nail surgery involves removing a portion or the entire nail and often, stopping the nail from growing back by applying a chemical or excising (cutting out) the nail bed.
If you are aged 16 and over and have a registered GP in Portsmouth, Southampton, Fareham, Gosport, East Hampshire, or West Hampshire area and have been struggling with painful in-growing toenails, you can now self-refer to NHS Solent Podiatry for a nail assessment.
